Card Layout

Two decks of cards without jokers, or 104 cards, are used in all three variations of the game—1 Suit, 2 Suit, and 4 Suit—and are dealt with randomly before each game. The cards are then arranged in 10 piles or columns, with 6 cards in each of the first four piles and 5 cards in each of the last six heaps, along a horizontal axis. Each pile's final card is dealt face up. The first card dealt goes to the first pile, the second card to the second pile, etc. Each pile receives a card at a time. The eleventh card would be dealt to the first pile, and so on until all 54 cards have been dealt.

The remaining cards are placed in the Stockpile and utilized to continue drawing cards into the game after the face-up cards have been pulled. Tableau is the term for the row of ten piles. After completing the King through Ace discussion, leave space for eight additional piles above or below the Tableau. This area is referred to as the "Foundation" and is where your heaps of cards will be moved.
